The thing about broken hearts
That no one ever believes
Is that they never last, my dear.
You feel it in your chest-
This cold, dead, hardened shell of a thing,
And you can’t possibly see how it will ever love again.
And it doesn’t. It never loves again.
But that’s okay, because it has a new purpose now.
It protects
The New Heart,
Slowly growing inside the broken shell of
The broken heart.
When you are ready to love again, my love,
The New Heart will break through the shell,
And you’ll have all your love to give again.
